
Organic Coffee
Choice Coffee is now working with a group of Coffee farmers on the slopes of Mt. Meru in Arusha region, who practise sustainable organic coffee farming. The coffee trees used are a new compact hybrid obtained from Tanzania Coffee Research institute (TACRI), which are highly resistant to CLR, CBD, CWD.
To ensure high cup quality and good bean size, the Coffee is grown on a nutrient rich volcanic soil, at an altitude of 1400m and without the application of any industrial Pesticides, insecticides or fertilisers are used on the plants or soil. They use organic available insecticides like Rabbit's Urine, tephrosia vogelii etc to inhibit pest infestation on their trees, while Cow manure is used to fertilise their farm's soil. The cows are kept at the farm and it is a mixed cultivation farm with bananas tree and beans intercropped with the coffee.
